Greenwood, nestled in South Carolina’s Old 96 District, dresses up its streets for the annual SC Festival of Flowers in June. More than 30 handmade topiaries, plants shaped into lifesize animals and whimsical characters, decorate the walkable city. Plan for a weekend trip on the festival’s main weekend in June or visit anytime through July while the topiaries are still on display.
SC Festival of Flowers offers an opportunity to see the beauty of flowers in spaces throughout Greenwood during a special weekend in June, filled with activities, local art and educational tours. Here are seven events to help you get started with your planning:

Annual Classic Car Show
During the festival’s Main Weekend, local car owners from several clubs including the Corvette Club, Emerald City Antique Automobile Club of America and Old 96 Model A Club are invited to show their vehicles. More than 100 cars – Cadillac, Chevy, Ford, and Pontiac – some dating back to the early 20th century are on display. Meet the owners, ask questions and learn about the history of these vehicles. The event is free and open to the public.

The Arts Center Juried Art Show
Wander through The Arts Center of Greenwood to view fiber art, paintings and pottery by Carolina artists in a variety of mediums. Don’t skip the Youth Show – artwork by talented elementary through high school students.
Arts & Craft Show
Get a head start on birthday and holiday shopping at a curated local art market in the Uptown Market. Meet the makers who design soaps, fragrances, jewelry and garden art from upcycled materials.
And if you’re game, cool off in the splash pad adjacent to the Uptown Market. Or send the kids in to burn off any extra energy.
Flower Power 5K Walk/Run
Start the summer with a 3.1-mile footrace through Greenwood’s charming uptown neighborhoods.
Plan a girls’ weekend and run or walk the race together – a perfect way to see the city and spend quality time with friends.

Garden Tours
Community gardens in Greenwood and the surrounding area provide special tours on the Saturday of the festival’s Main Weekend. Each garden tells a story, highlighting history, community and horticulture education. Walk away with ideas for your home garden. These gardens are free and open to the public year-round.
History Lessons
Learn what happened at the Ninety Six National Historic Site, part of the National Park Service, and 15 minutes from Greenwood. Watch the 20-minute video in the visitor’s center before venturing out on a one-mile paved loop with several hills identifying how the Patriots defeated the Royalists at Star Fort.
Before heading out on Lake Greenwood State Park’s nature trails, stop at the visitor’s center for a lesson on the Civilian Conservation Corps. A small museum highlighting the CCC’s legacy is free and open to the public.
Topiaries, Tastings & Tunes
Sip wine from souvenir glasses while walking through the streets of Greenwood for the festival’s Wine Walk. More than 20 local business owners host guests inside their shops and serve wine from all over the world. Go at your own pace: Listen to musicians playing along the route and stop for a bite at one of the downtown restaurants. The topiaries and Greenwood’s gardens offer inspiration for home gardeners and are the perfect backdrop for photos.
