Three Star Vineyard and Orchard in Johnston, South Carolina has been family owned and operated since 1992 and among many the most-see stops when visiting the Old 96 District of South Carolina. The gift shop opened in August 2019 and the Tasting Room in 2020. It is located one hour from Columbia, less than two hours from Greenville and 40 minutes from Augusta, Georgia.
We appreciate the perspectives of Ann Hutchins who answered a few of our questions.
Tell us about your wine products.
We offer wine and wine slushies by the glass or by the flight. We harvest our muscadine berries from our vineyard and send the juice to a winery in South Carolina to produce our delicious Sweet White Muscadine wine. We have two South Carolina wineries that produce wines at our request exclusively for Three Star Vineyard and Orchard. We carry approximately 25 different wines at all times. A few of our customers favorites are (of course) our Sweet White Muscadine, along with Peachy Keen, Raspea, Pomegranate Pinot Noir and Blackberry Malbec.
What flavors of wine slushies do you serve?
We have 13 Hand-Crafted Wine Slushie flavors to choose from on any given day which may include Sweet Red, Peach, Mango Moscato, Merlot, Lime Margarita, Black Cherry, Pina Colada, Berry Mimosa, Watermelon, Cotton Candy, Blackberry Lemonade, Pomegranate, Cranberry, Strawberry Daiquiri, Fudgesicle and others. We always have a non-alcoholic slushie available too. We have been told by our customers that we have the largest and most delicious Wine Slushie selection they have found!
What is one of the most rewarding things about your job?
The most rewarding aspect of our job here at the vineyard is the people! We have met thousands of guests who entered as strangers and return as friends.
Are there any upcoming events of note?
We are looking forward to our free live outdoor entertainment that resumes in March every Saturday from 1-3 pm. We have various artists booked from March through October. We have tickets going on sale soon for some of our big nighttime events that include The Soulful Reunion Festival on April 13 and Chapel Hart on June 29. We still haven’t announced the date for Twitty and Lynn (Grandson of Conway Twitty and granddaughter of Loretta Lynn). We have our 3rd annual Jeeps in the Vines scheduled this fall on September 28 from 11-5 and are now accepting applications for vendors and sponsors. We had approximately 300 jeeps here in 2023 and are looking forward to even more this year!
When is the best time to visit?
In the months of January and February, we are open Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 11-5. During the months of March through December, we are open Tuesday through Saturday from 11-5. We highly recommend reservations on Saturdays although they are not required. Our venue is available for rent for private parties after business hours. Please call or stop by to inquire about our options.
